The CEO of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, Saleh Al-Rasheed, has revealed the progress of plans to build an airport and metro system in Makkah, as part of Saudi Arabia efforts to develop infrastructure and transportation in the holy city.

The Commission announced that strategic and investment directions for building Makkah Airport according to international standards have been approved. Work is underway with the private sector to develop suitable investment models without affecting the feasibility of airports in neighboring cities.

Feasibility Studies and Preliminary Designs for Metro

Al-Rasheed confirmed that feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the Makkah Metro project have been completed, paving the way for actual implementation of the project that will change the transportation reality in the holy city. The metro is expected to facilitate the movement of visitors, pilgrims, and citizens alike.

These projects come within a broader framework to improve services and the overall experience for residents and visitors through projects covering housing, infrastructure, and public services, while ensuring alignment with local community needs.
