The Kingdom has recorded a remarkable rise in life expectancy, reaching 79.7 years in 2025, up from 74 years in 2016. This improvement is considered one of the most significant globally within less than a decade and reflects a broader transformation in the nation’s healthcare outcomes and overall quality of life.

According to official health data, this notable increase is the direct result of comprehensive healthcare reforms that strengthened preventive medicine, expanded medical services, and enhanced the efficiency of healthcare delivery across the Kingdom. These efforts included major investments in healthcare infrastructure, the expansion of hospitals, improved access to services, and the enhancement of national preventive health programs.

A key driver of the improvement has been the substantial decrease in traffic-related fatalities, which dropped by 60% since 2016. This decline is attributed to nationwide road-safety initiatives, awareness campaigns, and enhanced enforcement measures. The Kingdom also achieved a significant reduction in infectious disease–related deaths, which fell by nearly half due to advancements in vaccination programs, early detection systems, and faster epidemic response mechanisms.

At the same time, non-communicable disease mortality—including conditions such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes—declined by approximately 40%, driven by preventive health initiatives, lifestyle improvement programs, and better diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

The Kingdom’s healthcare capacity has also expanded significantly, with thousands of new hospital beds added across both public and private sectors, contributing to improved service levels and shorter waiting times. Emergency medical services witnessed a major leap forward as average response times dropped from 25 minutes in 2016 to just 10 minutes in 2025.

Universal healthcare coverage has reached an impressive 97.4% of the population, reflecting the strength of the national health system and its ability to deliver comprehensive services to all communities across the country.

This major rise in life expectancy underscores the success of the Kingdom’s vision in fostering a healthier population and a higher standard of living, while continuing to prioritize preventive care, strengthen healthcare capabilities, and support sustainable access to high-quality medical services in the years ahead.
