An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck eastern Taiwan on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake occurred in the early hours of the day, and no major damage or casualties have been reported so far, according to local media. Residents in the capital Taipei and surrounding cities felt the tremor clearly.

This incident comes amid a period of heightened seismic activity in the region, as Taiwan is located on the boundary of active tectonic plates, making it prone to earthquakes.
Local authorities have deployed emergency teams to monitor the situation and assess the safety of key infrastructure.
