With Eid Al-Fitr 1447H arriving on Friday, March 20, Boulevard City in Riyadh has transformed into the beating heart of the capital’s holiday entertainment scene, drawing thousands of families, visitors, and residents who have made the sprawling 220-acre complex their first choice for celebrating the most festive days of the year.
A Destination Built for Moments Like This
Boulevard City, located on Prince Turki al-Awwal Road in the Hittin neighborhood, was purpose-designed for occasions like Eid. Opened in October 2019 as the centerpiece of the inaugural Riyadh Season, it has since matured into a year-round cultural anchor — with Ramadan and Eid consistently drawing its largest crowds.
Operated jointly by the General Entertainment Authority, the National Events Center, and Sela Entertainment, the complex is divided into nine distinct sub-zones, each with its own character and programming. The Square, modeled on New York’s Times Square, functions as the social and commercial core. The Trocadero area takes its inspiration from London’s Coventry Street. Outdoor cinemas, cafes, restaurants, and live event stages round out an environment built to keep visitors of all ages engaged well past midnight. The destination also neighbors Boulevard World, a companion complex inaugurated in 2022 that has further expanded the entertainment footprint in that part of the city.
Eid as Peak Season
Boulevard City has become synonymous with Eid celebrations in Riyadh. Since its opening, the destination has hosted Eid parades, roaming entertainment troupes, family shows, and fireworks displays that have turned the evenings of the holiday period into some of the most vivid public experiences the city offers. In 2022, journalists on the ground described the complex as a “family hub” during Eid, with visitor queues forming well before the daily opening. That pattern has held every year since.
The fireworks that light up Boulevard City’s skyline on Eid evenings have become a shared memory for Riyadh families across generations, and the management team has consistently scaled the holiday programming upward in response to sustained demand. This year, with Eid and the spring season coinciding, the energy at the venue is expected to reach new heights.
Vision 2030’s Entertainment Dividend at Scale
The transformation of Eid Al-Fitr into an occasion of vibrant public celebration — alongside its enduring private, familial character — is among the most visible outcomes of Vision 2030’s sustained investment in the entertainment sector. Boulevard City is the most prominent symbol of that investment in Riyadh, providing a stage for the kind of shared public experience that the Kingdom’s leadership has made central to its social transformation agenda. The footfall it generates during Eid is both a measure of demand and a reflection of how deeply the culture of public entertainment has taken root across Saudi society.
