Astronomical Projections Indicate June 5 as First Day of Dhul Hijjah 1446 – Arafat Day and Eid Al-Adha Dates Revealed

Based on precise astronomical calculations conducted by leading observatories and astronomical research centers,

Wednesday, June 5, 2025, is expected to mark the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH.

These projections are grounded in the expected birth of the new crescent moon and its visibility parameters shortly after sunset on Tuesday, June 4.

If confirmed, this would place the Day of Arafat on Thursday, June 13, followed by Eid Al-Adha on Friday, June 14, 2025—dates that are eagerly anticipated by Muslims worldwide as they define the timeline for one of Islam’s most sacred seasons.

While astronomical methods today provide highly accurate forecasts for the lunar calendar,

the official Islamic calendar in Saudi Arabia is determined based on verified moon sightings, in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence.

Therefore, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has called on the public and observatories to sight the Dhul Hijjah crescent on the evening of Tuesday, 29 Dhul Qa’dah, equivalent to June 4.

Dhul Hijjah holds a profound spiritual status in Islam. It is the month in which the Hajj pilgrimage takes place,

drawing millions of Muslims to the holy sites in Makkah, and encompasses the Ten Blessed Days, including the Day of Arafat—considered the most sacred day of the Islamic year.

Fasting on this day is highly recommended for non-pilgrims, with the promise of forgiveness for two years of sins.

Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, follows the Day of Arafat and commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).

It is marked by prayer, animal sacrifice, and distribution of meat to the needy—reflecting the values of compassion, gratitude, and social solidarity.

Muslims around the world now await the official confirmation from Saudi Arabia,

which serves as the central authority for setting the dates of Hajj and Eid, uniting the global Muslim community in observance and celebration.
