ACWA Power Commences Commercial Operation of Three Major Solar Plants with 2.79 GW Total Capacity

In a landmark step toward sustainable energy transformation, Saudi-based ACWA Power has commenced the full commercial operation of three major solar plants across the Kingdom, with a combined capacity of 2.79 GW.

The projects include the Al-Kahfah plant in Hail with 1,425 MW, the Al-Rass 2 plant in Qassim with 1,000 MW, and the Saad 2 plant in Riyadh, which recently entered its second phase of operations, adding 365.7 MW to bring its total to 1,125 MW.

These achievements align with Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program, which targets generating 58.7 GW of renewable energy by 2030, including 40 GW from solar power, alongside major expansions in wind and concentrated solar power.

ACWA Power holds a 50.1% stake in these projects in collaboration with strategic partners, and the company expects the milestone to positively impact its financial performance in the second half of this year.

This accomplishment is more than an operational success—it marks a significant stride in the Kingdom’s drive to diversify its energy mix, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and accelerate the transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable future, strengthening Saudi Arabia’s global position as a leader in renewable energy.
