In a world where innovation and culture meet, The Saudi Times is excited to share a heartfelt conversation with Lina Malaika, a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker whose remarkable journey inspires us all. Lina’s story goes beyond personal achievement; it reflects a broader movement of empowerment and artistic expression in Saudi Arabia.
Lina has spent over two decades weaving her magic through film, fashion, art, and cultural consulting. Known for her diverse talents, she connects creativity, culture, and truth in a way that resonates deeply with many, making her a shining light for aspiring female entrepreneurs across the Kingdom.

Her artistic journey began at the tender age of seven, when she started painting and showcasing her work at a time when art was just beginning to flourish in Saudi Arabia. As one of the few young female artists in the 1990s, she quickly realized that creativity was more than just a profession for her; it was a vital means of expression and storytelling.
By sixteen, she had already launched her first fashion label while studying graphic design and art appreciation. Her designs, which included thousands of abayas and contemporary pieces, quickly gained popularity. This entrepreneurial spirit led her to London and New York, where she honed her skills in fashion design and filmmaking.

Lina’s academic and creative journey laid a strong foundation for her future. She founded Nisr Films, a production house named in honor of her late grandfather’s company. This venture has become a hub for innovative storytelling and cultural consulting, with her films premiering at prestigious festivals like the Red Sea International Film Festival and the Saudi Film Festival.
In her own words, “For too long, the narrative about Saudi women has been told on our behalf. Today, we each have the power and the platforms to tell our own stories, in our own voices.” This powerful belief drives her mission to amplify women’s voices and preserve cultural narratives.

Currently, as the Cultural Ambassador for Films That Move, Lina is developing the Saudi edition of the program, set to launch in 2026. This exciting initiative will blend film, choreography, and visual art to showcase the rich geography and heritage of Saudi Arabia.
Lina has been recognized as a leading creative voice in Saudi Arabia’s cultural renaissance, receiving the Rising Star Award at the Playbook Women Entrepreneurs Awards in 2024. Her collaborations with global brands and ongoing work as a cultural consultant further highlight her influential presence in a kingdom where dreams are within reach during this transformative era.

Through her unwavering belief in the power of creativity, Lina Malaika not only stands as a remarkable figure in the arts but also serves as a source of inspiration for future generations of women in Saudi Arabia. Her journey reminds us all that with passion and determination, we can shape our own narratives and inspire others to do the same.
