In a thrilling match against Al-Qadsiah, Al-Ittihad managed to secure their first victory of the Saudi Roshn League season, despite playing much of the second half with just 10 men. The match, held at the Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, concluded with a 1-0 win for the Jeddah team. This marks their inaugural win this season and catapults them to fourth place in the league standings.

Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena scored the match’s only goal during first-half stoppage time. His powerful left-footed shot from outside the box was enough to clinch the victory for Al-Ittihad. Scoring right before halftime provided the team with a psychological boost heading into the second half.

Al-Qadsiah seemingly scored four goals throughout the match, yet none stood. Mexican striker Julian Quinones was at the forefront of Al-Qadsiah’s attacks, but three of his attempts were dismissed due to offside or fouls in the lead-up. The frustration was evident among Al-Qadsiah players and their fans as each celebrated goal was subsequently nullified by the referee.

Al-Ittihad’s Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri also saw one of his goals disallowed for offside. These pivotal decisions kept the score in Al-Ittihad’s favor, even as Al-Qadsiah maintained relentless pressure.

Al-Ittihad faced a significant challenge early in the second half when Senegalese midfielder Dion Lopy received a second yellow card for a tough tackle on Al-Qadsiah’s Portuguese playmaker Otavio. Lopy’s ejection left Al-Ittihad with only 10 players, compelling them to adopt a defensive stance for the remainder of the game.

Despite being a man down, Al-Ittihad’s defense held strong, buoyed by an exceptional performance from Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic. Rajkovic played a crucial role, stopping numerous Al-Qadsiah attacks, particularly in the second half, ensuring his team maintained their slim lead.

The match also marked the debut of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, recently acquired by Al-Ittihad. Signed from Manchester City, Reijnders entered the field about 15 minutes into the second half. Although he tried to impact the game, Reijnders couldn’t alter the scoreline, as Al-Ittihad concentrated on defending their lead.

Reijnders’ presence on the pitch is part of Al-Ittihad’s efforts to bolster their midfield. His future performances will be closely observed as he looks to make his mark on the squad.

This win is a significant morale boost for Al-Ittihad, who previously drew 1-1 with Al-Khaleej in their season opener. The victory brings them to four points, placing them in fourth position in the league, marking a promising start to their campaign.

Conversely, Al-Qadsiah suffered their first loss of the season after previously beating Al-Shabab in their opening match. This defeat drops them to eighth place, with three points from their first two matches.

The outcome of this match underscores the competitive nature of the Saudi Roshn League, where teams are closely matched and small margins can significantly impact standings. Al-Ittihad’s ability to win under trying circumstances shows their resilience and determination, traits that will be vital as they pursue success this season.
