Al-Ahli clinched a decisive win over Abha, a match that prominently featured Francisco Trincao’s stunning goal and Ivan Toney’s hat-trick on Matchday 2 of the Saudi Pro League. This win has silenced the critics and signaled a promising new chapter under Marino Pusic’s management.

Since Matthias Jaissle left for Newcastle, Al-Ahli has been navigating the tricky waters of transition. Pusic took the helm with high expectations but faced skepticism after close games against Diriyah and Al-Anwar. The recent game at Al-Inma Stadium against Abha, though, marked a turning point.

Al-Ahli asserted control early against Abha. Ivan Toney struck twice within 13 minutes. Eduard Spertsyan set up the first with a sharp pass after intercepting in midfield, allowing Toney to finish past keeper Donovan Leon.

Galeno’s foul in the penalty area soon after handed Al-Ahli a spot-kick, which Toney coolly converted. This quick-fire double established a firm footing for the home team, setting their tempo for the remainder of the match.

Toney’s hat-trick stood out, but Francisco Trincao made his mark too. In the 51st minute, he intercepted former Al-Ahli defender Abdulbasit Al-Hindi’s pass and blasted a shot that wowed the crowd, marking his first goal for the club.

The partnership of Trincao and Toney showcased Al-Ahli’s attacking depth. Their synergy was clear as they orchestrated the play, keeping Abha’s defense under constant pressure.

Despite the convincing win, weaknesses were evident in the defensive midfield. Artem Bondarenko’s recent signing from Shakhtar Donetsk has sparked debate among fans. Over 16,000 social media comments have questioned if he’s the right fit for immediate needs.

Valentin Atangana’s struggle to cover midfield ground highlights the need for reinforcement. Management’s move to bring in Bondarenko is strategic, though opinions differ among supporters.

With this victory over Abha, Al-Ahli now looks to maintain consistency in the Saudi Pro League. Upcoming fixtures are pivotal for their season’s direction. With fans optimistic once more, Pusic and his squad aim to sustain their momentum.

Elsewhere, other league matches added excitement. Al-Fateh and Al-Ettifaq met in an Eastern Province derby, with Scotland’s Jack Hendry clinching a crucial 1-0 win for Al-Ettifaq. Meanwhile, Al-Kholood’s strong season start continued with a 3-2 victory over Al-Taawoun in a thrilling clash.

As the Saudi Pro League advances, Al-Ahli’s triumph over Abha underscores their potential and resilience. The team’s ability to adapt and overcome adversity bodes well for their ambitions this season. Fans are eager to see how the team evolves under Pusic’s guidance.
