Saudi Arabia has received Royal Approval to host the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026), marking another milestone in the Kingdom’s efforts to support scientific excellence and strengthen its role as a destination for major international academic events.

The Olympiad will take place in Jeddah from August 2 to 9, 2026, bringing together approximately 120 students and scientific specialists representing 19 countries.

The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, with King Abdulaziz University serving as the host venue.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 3 under the patronage of Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region.

The Royal Approval reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to nurturing gifted students and investing in future scientific talent while reinforcing the Kingdom’s growing position as a host of prestigious international academic competitions.

According to Mawhiba, hosting the Olympiad supports national efforts to prepare highly qualified professionals in nuclear science and its peaceful applications, while creating new opportunities for talented students to compete on the global stage.

Recognized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2024, the International Nuclear Science Olympiad provides an international platform where outstanding students exchange knowledge, showcase their scientific abilities, and explore peaceful applications of nuclear technologies.

The competition also encourages innovation, scientific research, and greater interest in advanced scientific disciplines among young participants.

The event follows Saudi Arabia’s successful hosting of the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2024 and the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2025, reinforcing the Kingdom’s expanding role in international science competitions.

Saudi students have also achieved notable success in previous editions of the Olympiad, winning five international awards, including one silver medal and three bronze medals.

The Royal Approval to host the 2026 competition highlights Saudi Arabia’s long-term commitment to scientific innovation, talent development, and international collaboration, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to build a knowledge-based economy and empower future generations of scientists.
