Saudi Arabia has confirmed Austin, Texas as its official base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation selecting Q2 Stadium, home of Major League Soccer side Austin FC, as the training hub for the Green Falcons throughout the tournament this summer.

The confirmation comes as Saudi Arabia enters the final phase of preparations for a World Cup in which the stakes could hardly be higher. Drawn into Group H alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde, the Green Falcons face three opponents who will test every dimension of their technical and tactical preparation before the tournament begins. The federation selected Austin from a FIFA pre-approved list of base camp host sites after Austin FC entered a hosting agreement with FIFA, granting FIFA the exclusive rights to designate a participating nation to base its operations in the city.

Saudi Arabia’s group stage journey opens on June 15 against Uruguay in Miami, followed by the most anticipated fixture of the group on June 21 against Spain in Atlanta. The Green Falcons close out their group stage campaign on June 26 against Cape Verde in Houston. Based in Austin throughout, the squad will benefit from a stable, consistently equipped training environment between matches, a logistical approach that reflects the federation’s emphasis on preparation continuity during the competition.

The relationship between the federation and Austin runs deeper than this tournament. Saudi Arabia visited Q2 Stadium for a Concacaf Gold Cup match against the United States in June 2025, giving both the technical staff and players direct familiarity with the facilities and conditions they will return to this summer. That prior experience is part of why Austin emerged as the preferred choice from the federation’s shortlist.

Ahead of the tournament itself, the squad will undergo an intensive final preparation phase starting May 25, when players begin physical and technical assessments as the first stage of the pre-World Cup camp in Austin. Three friendly matches against opponents currently being confirmed by the federation are planned during the camp period, giving the technical staff maximum information on the squad’s form and readiness before the group stage begins. The team also completed a 50-man training camp in Doha during the March international window as part of the broader preparation process.

Saudi Arabia arrives at the 2026 World Cup as one of Asia’s most decorated football nations. The Green Falcons have qualified for seven of the last nine World Cup editions and hold three AFC Asian Cup titles, a record that speaks to the consistency of the national programme over decades. Their 2022 group stage victory over eventual champions Argentina remains one of the most celebrated results in Saudi sporting history, and it set a standard the federation is determined to match or exceed in North America.

Group H presents genuine challenges. Spain enter as one of the tournament’s most technically complete sides. Uruguay bring the experience of a generation of players who know how to produce results at major tournaments. Cape Verde, meanwhile, have demonstrated the capacity to disrupt preparations in recent continental campaigns. The Austin camp will need to be productive in every session if the Green Falcons are to make a meaningful impression on what promises to be a deeply competitive group.
