Saudi Arabia’s national football team, the Green Falcons, prepare to face Serbia in an international friendly at the TSC Arena in Bačka Topola on Tuesday, March 31. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00 Central European Time, that is 8:00 PM Riyadh time, as head coach Hervé Renard’s squad wraps up the March international window with a fixture designed to sharpen preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The atmosphere inside the Saudi camp heading into Tuesday’s encounter carries a sense of determination. The Green Falcons suffered a difficult 4-0 defeat to Egypt in the window’s opening fixture on Friday, a result that prompted Renard to make immediate adjustments to his travelling party. Goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais has been recalled to the squad, while Moteb Al-Harbi is unavailable through injury. Ali Lajami and Hassan Kadesh have both been released from the group, with Rayan Hamed, Muteb Al-Mufarrij, Naif Masoud, Marwan Al-Sahafi and Abdullah Al-Hamdan among those entering Renard’s plans for the Serbia clash.

The match presents the coaching staff with an opportunity to test combinations and restore confidence ahead of the most consequential summer in Saudi football’s recent history.

Saudi Arabia arrive in Serbia as one of 48 confirmed participants in the 2026 World Cup to be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States. Their qualification, secured through a demanding Asian pathway, came via a mini round-robin tournament in October, where the Green Falcons defeated Indonesia and drew with Iraq to claim the top spot on goal difference, booking a third consecutive appearance at football’s biggest stage.

The group draw placed Saudi Arabia in a challenging bracket alongside two-time champions Uruguay, 2010 World Cup winners Spain, and tournament debutants Cape Verde. The ambition is clear: reaching the knockout stages for the first time since the 1994 tournament in the United States, and the work being done in this international window is a direct investment in that goal.

Tuesday’s match will mark the first-ever meeting between Saudi Arabia and Serbia, adding a historic dimension to what might otherwise seem a routine warm-up. For Serbia, who narrowly missed World Cup qualification after finishing third in European Group K, head coach Veljko Paunovic will also be looking for a positive response following a 3-0 loss to Spain at the weekend. Both teams enter with a point to prove, and that shared motivation should produce an engaged and competitive 90 minutes in Bačka Topola.
