Saudi Arabia’s three representatives in the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Elite have all secured their places in the round of 16, delivering a statement of intent from the Kingdom’s clubs on the continental stage. Al Hilal, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad each navigated the group phase with authority, and the Asian Football Confederation has since confirmed that Jeddah will serve as the host city for postponed last-16 ties involving the Saudi trio.

Al Hilal produced one of the standout group stage performances in the tournament’s recent history, going undefeated across all eight matchdays to top the West Region. The record four-time Asian champions registered seven victories and a single draw, a goalless result away to UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli, finishing the group phase with commanding authority. Their reward is a last-16 tie against Qatari side Al Sadd, with the match set to be played at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Al Ahli enter the knockout stage as defending champions, having claimed the ACL Elite title last season with a landmark victory over Kawasaki Frontale. The Jeddah club will face Qatar’s Al Duhail in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad also secured their knockout berth and are scheduled to meet UAE club Al Wahda, with that fixture also being hosted in Jeddah following the AFC’s venue confirmation.

The AFC’s decision to centralise the postponed matches at King Abdullah Sports City underlines Jeddah’s growing stature as a top-tier destination for international football. The stadium, known for its striking architectural design, has hosted a series of high-profile fixtures in recent years and continues to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading hub for elite sport in the region. The round-of-16 stage now sets up the prospect of a potential all-Saudi semifinal, a scenario that would mark an extraordinary milestone in the history of Asian club competition.
