In a testament to its growing international presence, Saudi Arabia is chairing the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), held from March 10 to 21, 2025, at the UN headquarters in New York.
The session focuses on the theme:
“Review and Appraisal of the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action +30.”
Saudi Arabia is represented by its Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, who also heads the organizing committee for this historic session.
The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a landmark global framework aimed at promoting women’s rights and empowerment across 12 key areas.
High-Level Saudi Delegation
The Kingdom is participating with a high-level national delegation, led by the Family Affairs Council, represented by its Secretary General Dr. Maimoonah Al-Khalil.
The delegation includes representatives from various national entities spanning the government, private, and nonprofit sectors, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s inclusive approach to advancing gender equality.

Evaluating Progress Over the Past Five Years
The session will focus on assessing the progress made between 2019 and 2024, based on national reports submitted by member states.
It aims to highlight achievements in women’s empowerment while addressing ongoing challenges that hinder further advancement in gender equality worldwide.
Three High-Level Events and a Dedicated Exhibition
As part of its leadership role, Saudi Arabia will host three high-level events in collaboration with international organizations and countries that share similar priorities.
Additionally, a special exhibition at the UN headquarters will showcase the Kingdom’s journey in empowering women,
spotlighting its significant strides under Vision 2030, which has elevated the role of women across political, economic, social, and cultural spheres.
A Mandate of Global Trust
Saudi Arabia’s selection to chair this session was nominated and endorsed by member states during the previous session,
underscoring the Kingdom’s credibility and growing influence in shaping global gender policies.
The Commission on the Status of Women is one of the functional commissions under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
It is responsible for reviewing global progress on women’s issues and helping shape international standards and policies to promote women’s rights and enhance their status worldwide.
