In a move to enhance infrastructure and ensure greater comfort for pilgrims, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Roads has begun using rubberized asphalt instead of conventional asphalt on select roads leading to the holy sites during Hajj season.
Rubberized asphalt is known for its superior flexibility, noise reduction, and vibration absorption,
offering a smoother and more comfortable walking and travel experience—especially in high-traffic pilgrimage areas.
This material also presents environmental benefits, as it is produced using recycled rubber from used tires,
contributing to waste reduction and sustainable infrastructure development.
The initiative is part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to modernize Hajj services and implement smart,
pilgrim-centric solutions that enhance safety, comfort, and overall quality of life in the holy sites.
