King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Approves Saudi Riyal Currency Symbol

In a historic move aimed at strengthening the identity of the national currency, Saudi Arabia officially adopted a currency symbol for the Riyal on Thursday, following a directive from King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

The Governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), Ayman bin Mohammed Al-Sayari, stated that the decision would contribute to “enhancing the financial identity of the Kingdom at local, regional, and international levels.”

The new Riyal currency symbol will be gradually integrated into financial transactions, commercial dealings, and various applications in coordination with relevant official entities.

Fostering national pride and cultural identity.

Strengthening confidence in the Saudi Riyal and showcasing its significance.

Positioning Saudi Arabia among the world’s largest economies and G20 nations.

Highlighting the increasing role of the Riyal in the global financial system.

According to SAMA’s governor, the initiative will enhance the Riyal’s presence in global financial markets and reinforce its role in the economic framework of the Kingdom.

The currency symbol features the word “Riyal” in an Arabic-inspired design, reflecting the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and calligraphic traditions.

Saudi Arabia aims for this symbol to become universally recognized, ensuring its representation in financial transactions and commercial exchanges locally, regionally, and internationally.

This initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for business, tourism, and sports.
